Hello Friends!
Some of the things I enjoy most in our kitchen are the little details that are both beautiful and useful.
A few pots of fresh herbs may seem simple, but I love having them close by while I’m cooking, making a cocktail, or adding a finishing touch to something I’m serving. There is something so satisfying about reaching for a few fresh leaves or clipping a sprig right when I need it.
I recently refreshed our little kitchen herb garden with three of my favorites: basil, mint, and rosemary. They each bring something different to the kitchen, and I find myself reaching for them in completely different ways.

A LITTLE HERB GARDEN REFRESH
I picked up fresh basil, mint, and rosemary during a recent Trader Joe’s run and brought them home to give our kitchen herb garden a fresh start.
I cleaned out the white planters, added the new herbs, and gave each one a little trim. It was such a simple refresh, but seeing all that fresh green in the kitchen immediately made the space feel a little brighter.
And while I certainly love the way fresh herbs look on the counter, I especially love that they are there to be used.

BASIL
Fresh basil might be the herb I reach for most often.
It is wonderful in pasta, pizza, salads, pesto, sandwiches, and tomato-based dishes, but I especially love using it as a finishing touch. A few leaves can bring freshness, color, and flavor to even the simplest appetizer.

One of my favorite recent uses was on peach and burrata crostini. The combination of sweet peaches, creamy burrata, and fresh basil was simple, seasonal, and perfect for entertaining.
That little bit of green on top also made the finished crostini feel just a bit more special.

MINT
Mint is one of my favorite herbs to have nearby when I’m making drinks.
It is lovely in cocktails and mocktails, infused water, tea, fruit, desserts, and salads. Even when it is simply being used as a garnish, its fresh fragrance makes such a difference.

I recently used fresh mint in a Hugo Spritz, and it was the perfect example of why I enjoy keeping it within reach.
A few leaves added beautiful color to the glass while also bringing that light, fresh aroma that makes the drink feel especially refreshing.

ROSEMARY
Rosemary is a little different from the other two because I find myself using it both in the kitchen and around our home.
It is wonderful with roasted chicken, potatoes, breads, marinades, infused oils, and cocktails. Its sturdy stems and beautiful texture also make it especially nice for garnishing.

But one of my favorite recent uses had nothing to do with cooking at all.
I clipped a few sprigs of rosemary and tucked them into the magnetic test tubes on our refrigerator alongside fresh flowers. I loved the unexpected combination of herbs and blooms—and how something growing right in the kitchen could become part of a simple flower moment too.

KEEPING FRESH HERBS WITHIN REACH
I’ve found that having herbs somewhere visible makes me much more likely to actually use them.
Instead of buying a package for one recipe and forgetting about the rest, I can clip what I need for an appetizer, add a few leaves to a drink, or use a sprig as a pretty finishing detail.
They do require a little attention, of course. I keep an eye on the soil, water them according to what each herb needs, and trim them regularly. But for me, that small bit of care is worth it.
More than anything, I love the way a little kitchen herb garden brings together so many things I enjoy—cooking, entertaining, flowers, and simply making the everyday feel a little more special.
Sometimes it really is the smallest details that bring the most joy.
Do you keep fresh herbs in your kitchen? If so, which one do you reach for most often?
