August 27, 2026

Hello Friends! There is something I love about the evening before a celebration. The house gets a little quieter, the plans are finally coming together, and I can start checking off those last few details that will make entertaining feel easier once guests arrive. Before Jovan’s Brunch + Basketball birthday celebration, one of those details […]

Jovan’s Brunch + Basketball Birthday Celebration

August 25, 2026

Hello Friends! On Monday, August 24, we celebrated my hubby Jovan’s 46th birthday with good food, good drinks, good company—and plenty of basketball. When I started thinking about his birthday, I knew I wanted the celebration to feel like him. Jovan loves basketball, sneakers, and bourbon, so instead of simply choosing a basketball theme, I […]

The Everyday Joy of a Kitchen Herb Garden

August 21, 2026

Hello Friends! Some of the things I enjoy most in our kitchen are the little details that are both beautiful and useful. A few pots of fresh herbs may seem simple, but I love having them close by while I’m cooking, making a cocktail, or adding a finishing touch to something I’m serving. There is […]

The Simple Pleasure of Happy Hour at Home

August 20, 2026

Hello Friends! There’s something especially nice about happy hour at home. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or even planned very far in advance. Sometimes, it’s simply pouring something you enjoy, setting out a small bite, and giving yourself permission to slow down for a little while. Especially during the warmer months, I love creating […]

An Easy Hummus Flower for Summer Entertaining

August 18, 2026

Hello Friends! Some of my favorite entertaining ideas are the ones that take something familiar and make it feel just a little more special. Hummus is already one of those easy appetizers I love to serve. Add warm naan, a drizzle of olive oil, and a few thoughtful garnishes, and it always feels welcoming. But […]

A Simple Fresh Flower Moment for the Kitchen

August 17, 2026

Hello Friends! Fresh flowers don’t always have to mean a full arrangement. Sometimes, a few stems tucked into an unexpected place can bring just as much joy. Today, I’m sharing one of those little flower moments—a simple grouping of lavender, rosemary, and baby’s breath displayed in clear magnetic test tubes on our refrigerator. It’s an […]

Chilled Lavender Towels for Summer Entertaining

August 14, 2026

Hello Friends! Some of my favorite entertaining details are also the simplest. On a warm summer afternoon, something as small as offering your guests a cool, lightly scented towel can feel incredibly thoughtful. It’s refreshing, unexpected, and takes only a few minutes to prepare before everyone arrives. These chilled lavender towels are especially lovely for […]

Three Easy Summer Spritzes for Your Next Happy Hour

August 13, 2026

Hello Friends! There is something about a spritz that feels made for summer. It’s light, bubbly, refreshing, and—perhaps my favorite part—incredibly easy to make. A bottle of prosecco, a splash of something flavorful, a little sparkling water, and a beautiful garnish are really all you need. Whether you’re inviting a few friends over for happy […]

The Quiet Moments Before “I Do”: The Beauty Before the Ceremony

August 12, 2026

Hello Friends! There is a moment on almost every wedding day when everything seems to shift. The dress is on. The final touches have been made. The bouquet has arrived. Somewhere nearby, guests are beginning to take their seats. And for just a moment, things get quiet. After months—sometimes more than a year—of planning, making […]

Basketball season is officially here. 🏀 Tomorrow Basketball season is officially here. 🏀

Tomorrow is Sebastian’s first game of the season, and with Jovan coaching his 5th grade team this year, I wanted to put together a little something for the boys.

These Game Day Fuel bags are filled with a few simple snacks, a drink, fresh fruit, and one practical little extra for after the game.

Nothing complicated—just a thoughtful way to celebrate the start of a new season.

The full details are on The Ebony Edit. 🖤

The night before a celebration is one of my favori The night before a celebration is one of my favorite times to prep the little details that make hosting feel easier.

For Jovan’s 46th birthday, that meant batching his signature cocktail, The 46—an Old Fashioned made with Maker’s Mark, demerara syrup, aromatic bitters, orange bitters, and a fresh orange peel.

I mixed everything the evening before, transferred it to a decanter, and had it ready for guests the next day. Simple, thoughtful, and one less thing to prepare once the celebration began.

The full recipe is now on The Ebony Edit. 🥃

We gathered at home for Brunch + Basketball with a Starting 5 menu, sneakers throughout the décor, mini Nike favor boxes, and a signature Old Fashioned we called The 46.

The details were fun, but the best part was having some of our favorite people together to celebrate another year.

Cheers to 46, my love—and another winning season. 🥃🏀

I’m sharing more about my kitchen herb garden, along with a few of my favorite ways to use each herb, today on The Ebony Edit at ebonypeoples.com.

Nothing elaborate—just a favorite glass of wine, a few simple bites, and a little time to slow down.

For this little happy hour moment, I poured a glass of Riesling and paired it with a simple board of sharp cheddar, salami, pepperoni, crackers, grapes, olives, and glazed nuts.

Sometimes, making an ordinary afternoon feel special really can be that simple.
