Hello Friends!
Basketball season is officially here, and this weekend is an exciting one in our house—Sebastian’s 5th grade team is playing their first game of the season!
This season feels especially fun because Jovan is one of the head coaches for Sebastian’s team. Between practices, conversations about the game and getting ready for Saturday mornings at the gym, basketball has quickly become part of our family rhythm.
And, of course, I couldn’t resist finding my own little way to contribute.
For the team’s first game, I put together simple Game Day Fuel Bags for the players to grab after the game. Nothing elaborate—just a few snacks, a drink and one practical addition tucked into a bag and ready for a group of hungry 5th graders.

GAME DAY FUEL
When I started thinking about what to include, I wanted the bags to feel fun for the kids while still being useful after a morning of basketball.
Each bag includes:
- Dot’s Original Seasoned Pretzel Twists — something salty and crunchy.
- Fruit Punch Gatorade Zero — a cold drink for after the game.
- Quaker Chewy Chocolate Chip Granola Bar — an easy, individually wrapped snack with a little sweetness.
- One Cutie — fresh fruit that travels well and doesn’t require any prep.
- One individually wrapped hand wipe — because basketball hands + snacks make this one worth including!

I especially love adding the Cutie. It gives the bag a fresh element, and that little pop of orange feels perfectly at home with a basketball-themed game day.

A SIMPLE WAY TO MAKE IT SPECIAL
The contents are intentionally uncomplicated, so the presentation is where I can have a little fun.

I kept the packaging simple: white bags, black tissue paper, black twine and a custom tag in the team colors of red, black and white.
A few small details turn everyday snacks into something that feels like it was prepared especially for the players.
That’s one of my favorite things about celebrating: it doesn’t always require doing more. Sometimes it’s simply about making an ordinary moment feel considered.

Because everything is individually packaged, the bags can be assembled ahead of time and ready to grab on the way out for game day.
MORE THAN THE FIRST GAME
There’s something particularly special about the beginning of a new season.
The first game will eventually become one of many, but right now there’s anticipation—new teammates learning to play together, coaches encouraging them from the sidelines and families filling the stands to cheer them on.
I know Sebastian is excited to get on the court, and I’m excited to watch both him and Jovan experience this season together.
And if I get to be the mom who shows up with the snacks? I’m very happy to claim that job, too.

Here’s to a great season, lots of growth, plenty of fun—and a little something good waiting after the final buzzer.
What’s your favorite snack to pack for game day?
