Some of my most treasured possessions aren’t the newest things in my home—they’re the ones filled with memories.
My grandmother, whom I affectionately called Tutu, passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2015. She was one of the greatest influences in my life and the person who first showed me that hospitality is about making people feel welcomed, loved, and cared for. Long before I planned weddings and celebrations, I watched her create meaningful moments around the table with effortless grace.
When she passed away, she left me her beautiful 51-piece Rose Lane Collection of Meito Fine China, handcrafted in Japan. The set had been given to my grandparents as a wedding gift in the 1950s, making every piece a reminder of their love story and the many gatherings they shared over the years.
For years, I carefully tucked the china away in a cabinet, worried about preserving it. But one day I realized something.
The most meaningful way to honor my grandmother isn’t by keeping her china hidden.
It’s by using it.
So I washed every piece, set the table, and found a new purpose for her teacups by transforming them into individual charcuterie cups. They became a simple yet elegant way to serve guests during brunch, afternoon tea, or any gathering where beautiful details make people feel celebrated.

For each teacup, I included:
- Pirouline wafer cookie
- Green grapes
- Rosemary crackers
- Pepperoni
- Cheese cubes
- Babybel cheese
- Fresh strawberry
- Pretzel snaps
- White chocolate-covered pretzel

Beautiful entertaining doesn’t always require buying something new.
Take a look inside a family china cabinet or browse a local antique or thrift shop. Vintage teacups can become charming vessels for charcuterie, desserts, snacks, or even small floral arrangements. Giving treasured pieces a new purpose allows their stories—and the people who cherished them—to continue being part of new memories.
I hope this inspires you to pull out those beautiful pieces you’ve been saving for “someday.” Sometimes the most meaningful celebrations happen on an ordinary afternoon, using the things that remind us of the people we love most.
