Hello Friends! Jovan and I celebrated 12 years of marriage on January 17th! When I think about my “wish list” for the man of my dreams vs what I actually received, God exceeded my expectations more than I could have ever fathomed at the time! Marriage takes work but, in my opinion, it’s totally worth it!

My hubby and I collectively came up with a list of 12 tips for a happy and healthy marriage. Here’s a peek at our list:
- Pray daily, together and separately. Ask God to guide your mind and lead your heart in love.
- Say “yes” to premarital counseling.
- Be comfortable with having uncomfortable conversations. Being honest and transparent is vital to the longevity of a marriage.
- Be an effective listener. Give your spouse a safe space to express how they feel..
- Date your spouse. Be creative. Have fun. No kids.
- Be consistent. Do you remember all of those things you did in the beginning to keep your significant other engaged? Keep doing them!
- Keep your personal business to yourself. If you’re in need of counsel, seek the guidance of a professional marriage counselor.
- Be open to change. If you plan to spend the rest of your life with this person, know your spouse’s love language.
- Find out what truly makes you happy. It’s not your spouse’s job to fill that void. Happiness is personal.
- Don’t compare your marriage to others. What works for them may not work for you.
- Give 100% of yourself. 50% + 50% won’t cut it!
- Take personal accountability. Be willing to apologize.
Cheers to celebrating love, commitment, and the lessons learned after 12 years of marriage!
