Atlanta Birthday Celebration: Jovan’s Intimate (Surprise) Picnic

September 5, 2020

COVID has definitely changed the course of some of my family’s major celebrations this year!  Jovan turned 40 on August 24th!  He is such a wonderful and loving husband, father, and friend and the type of guy who takes care of everyone else… I wanted Jovan to bring in his 40th birthday with family and friends so we could celebrate and take care of him with an epic birthday bash!  Although COVID postponed our celebratory plans, I wanted to create an intimate weekend of surprise events for Jovan, Sebastian, and me!

On Saturday, August 22nd, we surprised Jovan with a kayaking adventure Morgan Falls during the morning and a trip to Restore for a cryotherapy session!

On Sunday, August 23rd, we played an afternoon round of miniature golf at The Fringe in Roswell followed by an evening spin on Skyview Atlanta, the 20-story Ferris wheel in Centennial Park!  The evening concluded with a romantic horse and carriage ride around downtown Atlanta!

We saved our biggest and best surprise for Sunday, August 24, Jovan’s actual birthday!  First, I rented out a theater at The Springs Cinema and Taphouse in Sandy Springs.  Jovan thought we were going to watch one of his favorite childhood movies.  Instead, he was greeted on screen with a surprise video from family and friends who shared birthday wishes from near and far!  Later that day, Sebastian and I celebrated Jovan with a surprise birthday picnic in the park at Heritage Sandy Springs!  Here’s a peek courtesy of Theary Louneoubonh:

Thanks so much to my fellow event industry friends who made Jovan’s surprise birthday picnic a success: Angelica of Utopian Events, Theary Louneoubonh Photography, and Richmond Punch (violinist)!  I’d also like to thank my sweet Sebastian for all of his help in making daddy’s birthday extra special!

COVID doesn’t have to halt all of our celebratory plans.  We just have to find new, creative, and safe ways to keep the party going!  How are you planning to celebration life’s special moments during COVID?  I’d love to know in the comments below!

XO

The month of July was filled with adventure, a bit The month of July was filled with adventure, a bit of history, and lots of love! 💗

As you may know, I am a former elementary school teacher. My first teaching job (2006-2007) took me to Pinellas County in Florida. I lived in Clearwater and taught in St. Pete. I introduced Clearwater Beach to Jovan and Sebastian years ago and it has quickly become our home away from home! We visit at least once a year and stay at the Sandpearl Resort! We enjoy time at the pool, in the Gulf, and at our favorite local spots! 🏝️

My maternal family is originally from Verbena, Alabama. Although we traveled to this magical place for a funeral, we took time to explore and reconnect with the land! We visited Peach Park in Clanton. As a child, it was one of my favorite places to visit during our annual summer trips! Sebastian had an opportunity to revisit the home of his late great-great-grandmother (Estella) and great-great-great-grandmother (Ellen). He even got to pick figs with our sweet cousin, Diane! 🥰

July 31st marks the end of summer vacation. We officially have a 4th grader! Stay tuned to see where we’re headed for Fall Break in September! ✈️
