Hello Friends!
Growing up, 8 and 24 were my absolute favorite numbers. So perhaps it was meant to be that I would marry a wonderful man whose birthday just happens to be August 24th—8/24!
This year, I had the joy of celebrating another trip around the sun with my husband, Jovan, by creating an intimate birthday dinner filled with a few of his favorite things: bourbon, beer, and BBQ.
And because every celebration deserves a few thoughtful details, we transformed our family room into the perfect setting for a cozy birthday picnic at home.

SETTING THE TONE
The celebration began with a custom welcome sign from Pixel Candy Paperie, introducing the Bourbon, Beer, & BBQ theme before guests even settled in for the evening.
I love incorporating personalized details like this into celebrations. They don’t have to be elaborate to make an occasion feel intentional—they simply help tell guests, something special is happening here.
AN INDOOR PICNIC AT HOME
To bring the birthday dinner to life, I enlisted the help of my sweet friend Shannon of La Petite Picnic ATL, who transformed our family room into a beautiful indoor picnic.
The warm neutral palette, layered place settings, florals, candles, and comfortable floor seating created an intimate atmosphere that felt relaxed enough for a birthday at home while still making the evening feel special.

One of the things I loved most about the setup was that it encouraged everyone to settle in, enjoy dinner, and spend time together. Sometimes the most memorable celebrations aren’t the largest ones—they’re the ones that create space for the people you love to simply gather.

A PERSONALIZED CHARCUTERIE MOMENT
When guests arrived, they were welcomed with a charcuterie spread arranged inside paper mâché numbers forming Jovan’s age, 42.

I had seen this idea on Pinterest and couldn’t wait for an opportunity to put my own spin on it. Incorporating his age into the presentation turned a simple appetizer into another personalized detail for the celebration.
It’s also a wonderful reminder that inspiration can come from anywhere—the magic is in adapting an idea to make it feel personal to the occasion.
BOURBON, BEER & BBQ
For dinner, we leaned all the way into the theme.
Guests enjoyed BBQ catered by Four 41 South along with a peach tea and bourbon cocktail. The menu was casual, delicious, and perfectly suited to the relaxed atmosphere of the evening.
And no birthday celebration would be complete without a little something sweet.
A LITTLE SOMETHING TO TAKE HOME
At the end of the evening, guests left with Sugarfina Bourbon Bears and miniature bottles of Bulleit Bourbon—a playful final nod to the evening’s theme.

I love ending a celebration with a small takeaway that connects back to the experience. It doesn’t have to be extravagant; sometimes one thoughtful detail is enough to give guests a little piece of the celebration to enjoy later.
CELEBRATING JOVAN
More than the decor, menu, or details, this evening was about celebrating someone I love.
Jovan, happiest of birthdays to you. Cheers to another beautiful year ahead—and to celebrating you for all the days of my life. ❤️
