Dallas Wedding Celebration: Adiam and Raif

July 13, 2018

Hello Friends!  Happy Friday!  I’d love to #fbf to just a few months ago!  I had the pleasure of assisting Adiam and Raif with planning final details and coordinating their February 10th wedding day!  Their wedding is one that I’ll always hold close to my heart because it was my first Eritrean wedding and it was also my 35th birthday!

Adiam and Raif chose a soft color palette complete with shades of blush pink, cream, and gold, mixed with metallic textures and accents!  The wedding day began with a full glam and groom session complete with hair (and haircuts), makeup, custom cookies, and champagne at the host hotel!  From there, the bride, with her girls in tow, traveled to per parents’ home to slip on her wedding dress as a nod to her Eritrean roots!  The couple exchanged vows in a beautiful, family-filled ceremony at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church!  After that, the bridal party had a full on photo shoot on the penthouse floor of The Stoneleigh Hotel with the talented Joshua Dwain!  The reception took place at the DoubleTree North Dallas Hotel.  It was an amazing celebration fused with sweet love and beautiful culture!  It included a delicious Eritrean food spread, a cotton candy machine, live music entertainment from Tareke Tesfahiwet (who’s known as the Eritrean Stevie Wonder), and lots of dancing (shim shim)!  The night ended with blessings from the elders and a confetti send-off!Here’s a peek at the Rucker Romance courtesy of the talented Joshua Dwain Photography:

Modern Luxury Weddings Atlanta Feature: Wine & Whimsy

June 18, 2018

Happy Monday!  My week is off to a great start!  (I hope yours is too!)  The Fall/Winter 2018 issue of Modern Luxury Weddings Atlanta is here!  I was so elated when the Modern Luxury Weddings team asked me to plan and design a styled shoot along the lines of “Dark Romance meets French Allure” at Yonah Mountain Vineyards for the upcoming issue!  My creative juices were immediately flowing after my initial tour of the venue!  I wanted to step outside of the norm by accenting the natural beauty of the vineyard greens with bold, rich, and modern colors and textures!

Here’s a peek at the publication courtesy of Casey Green Photography:

Wedding Word Etiquette: Altar vs. Alter

April 23, 2018

I’m truly thankful for my background as an elementary school teacher!  Many of the skills I used in the classroom (organization, patience, creativity, etc) carry over into the wedding planning industry!  This includes what I like to call Wedding Word Etiquette.

Today I’d like to shed a bit of light on the difference between altar and alter.  Although these homophones sound the same, they have different meanings and spellings.  Please note the following:

AltAr: a place/table in the church where gifts and sacrifices are offered up to God

AltEr: change or cause to change in character or composition

In the wedding world, the altAr is the place where the bride and groom exchange vows and get married.  Here’s a peek at Olamide and Okem at the altar during their wedding ceremony at Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Dallas!

The word altEr could refer to a menu change or change in wedding plans.

Congrats!  You made it through today’s grammar lesson!  Stay tuned!  I’ll be back with more Wedding Word Etiquette!

XOXO
