Styled Shoot: Outdoor Elegance in Highland Park, TX

January 22, 2011

I am still celebrating the launch of my new website!  I feel that it’s important for a website to embody the true personality behind the company brand.  Prior to launching, I needed to get some photos for my new website.  My vision was to bring the elegance of an indoor ballroom to the natural beauty of an outdoor setting.  I contacted a few of my Dallas friends to collaborate for the shoot.  This group of talented event professionals helped me bring my vision to life.  We setup at Davis Park in Highland Park, Texas.  Together, we created an elegant outdoor table setting in addition to a yummy dessert display!

Catie Ronquillo was the photographer for the Outdoor Elegance photo shoot.  Here’s a peek:

Fun Fact Friday: Meet Ebony (Part 1)

January 21, 2011

Upon hiring an event planner, it’s important to make sure that your personalities mesh well together.  After all, your planner is your new best friend for the duration of the planning process, whether it’s 12 months for your wedding or 3 months for your company launch party.

With that being said, today starts the beginning of Fun Fact Friday!  Every Friday for the next few weeks I’ll be sharing a few random facts about myself.  As I get to know you throughout the planning stages, I’d like you to have a little background information about me as well!

Abby Rose Photo

Check out a snippet of an interview that I recently did with Doodle Dog Advertising:

Why did you start your business?

What started out as planning small events for family and close friends during college has grown into a dream career. I have always been the go-to person when it comes time to get ideas for the family wedding, a baby shower, or a friends birthday party. I consider myself to be organized and I always have my to-do list close by my side. I am a sucker for true love and the idea of marriage means so much more to me than just the wedding. With these things combined, wedding and event planning has always come natural to me. Everyday is an event to celebrate, whether it’s an afternoon tea with your girls or the day you marry your best friend. We only have one life to life… spend it doing what you love!

What is unique about your business?

Ironically, my maiden-name is Peoples and I am just that, the ultimate people-person! I have never met a stranger and I cherish the relationships that I build with my clients. My goal is to create one-of a kind, personalized weddings and events that truly embody the style and personality of my clients.

What is the process like to work with you?

The process usually begins with a phone call or email followed by an initial consultation over a yummy drink at Starbucks. If we’re a match made in Heaven, the planning and magic begins! Depending on the clients specific needs, we’ll be best friends for as long as it takes to make your dream event a reality! I also like to keep in touch with former clients on birthdays and anniversaries.

Tell us about your family.

I just celebrated my one-year anniversary with the love of my life on January 17, 2011. Jovan is my husband, my best friend, my everything… He has been in my corner cheering on Ebony Peoples Events & Design from the beginning. We don’t have any kids just yet but our dog, Papi, (a chihuahua-dachshund mix) is our practice. I am very close to my mom, grannies, brothers, and sisters back in Michigan. (You should see my sprint bill!) If I could fly back home every Saturday morning to have breakfast with my mom and granny, I would!

Do you have any pets? What are their names?

We have Papi… but he’s more like a child than a dog. We also have betta fish.

Where do you like to shop?

I love Macy’s, Target, Express, and BCBG… (I’m sure my husband has more to say on that!) My motto is: If Target doesn’t have it, nobody does!

Describe yourself and your style.

I love to combine the elegance and class of tradition with a modern, trendy edge. I’ve often described my business as Celine Dion meets Beyonce!

Where do you find inspiration?

EVERYWHERE! I can find inspiration in just about anything. I dream BIG so I usually keep a notepad close to the bed.

I hope you’ve enjoyed Part 1 of “Meet Ebony.”  If you’d like to know something about me, feel free to ask in the comments section and I’ll be sure to post the answers in next week’s segment!

Until next time,

XOXO

Wedding Planning Tips with David Tutera

January 13, 2011

Celebrity event planner David Tutera recently came to Dallas for a speaking engagement.  He spoke to a group of event professionals and brides-to-be at the Adolphus Hotel.  There’s only one word that describes this event planner: Fabulous! I was ecstatic to be spending a few hours getting the inside scoop on his famed reality show “My Fair Wedding” and tips on how to plan the perfect wedding.

Tips from Tutera:

– Pictures last a lifetime! Choose your photographer wisely.  Once the honeymoon is over, your wedding pictures will be your lasting memory.

– Change is good! If you want to keep your guests engaged, be sure to having something new happening at your reception every 30 minutes.  Keep the party going!

– If you want to have a Winter Wonderland Wedding in July, go for it! Don’t get too attached to “seasonal” colors and expectations.

– Be realistic with your budget.  Educate yourself on what things cost.  Set a list of priorities.  Know what you want and where you’re willing to cut back if necessary.

– Guests don’t want to take home random favors.  Make your favors meaningful (and useful) or cut them out altogether.  You can utilize this money in another area of your budget.

– Try something new with the tables at your reception.  X tables are a new trend that’s becoming quite popular.  With this look, tables are set up in the shape of an “X”.  This is a great way to give the room a new look and sense of personal style!

Be sure to catch David Tutera the next time he visits your city. I sure will!

Watch David Tutera on “My Fair Wedding” Sunday nights on We TV at 9pm|8c.

Hello World!

January 7, 2011

Hello world!

I am pleased to share the new website for Ebony Peoples Events & Design!  I met Nikki Morrison Nuckols of Doodle Dog Advertising while training with Dallas Wedding Planner in September of 2010.  I immediately noticed her unique style and passion for work.  I knew in my heart that I just had to work with her!  I wanted my website to display a classical elegance with a modern twist! (Think Celine Dion meets Beyonce.)  Nikki was able to capture the true essence of my personality and bring it to life through my branding, website, and printed materials.  Check it out:

I’m so in love with my new logo! What do you think?

I have now officially joined the blogging world.  I look forward to connecting with you through my blog while sharing design inspiration and the latest scoop about what’s going on in the wedding and event industry! Thanks so much for stopping by.

I’ll be blogging again soon!

XOXO
